Here we would like to explain how you can apply for an exchange semester at the School of Business and Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
The first step for you is to apply through your home university and be admitted to the right exchange program. After admission, your home university will formally forward your nomination to us.
Your nomination must be made before May if you plan to stay for the fall semester, and before November for the spring semester. After we receive your nomination, we will contact you again.
Finally, you can submit your application through our application portal "Moveon". You will be asked to fill out your personal information and upload a language certificate. You can also apply for a room in a student residence at exchange-students@hu-berlin.de. Once we have confirmed your application, you will be formally admitted as an exchange student at our faculty.
Application deadline for the Fall Semester: April 15th - May 31st

I was accepted as an exchange student, what's next? 🖉
Now you have to enroll as a student at the university and pick up your "Semesterticket". It is your student ID and at the same time your ticket for the greater Berlin area.
As soon as we have accepted your application, our colleagues at the central International Office will inform you about the further procedure of enrolling at the university by sending you a detailed guide.
Do I need to pay any fees in relation to my exchange semester at Humboldt?🖉
Yes, you need to. However, you will not be required to pay tuition. All students must pay approximately €250 per semester. The amount may change slightly from year to year; your admission letter will state the exact amount.
1. Matriculation fee (€ 50)
This fee must be paid each semester. Programme exchange students such as ERASMUS+ students are exempt from this fee.
2. Semester due for the Studierendenschaft (€ 9.75)
All Humboldt students are automatically members of the Studierendenschaft and have to pay a compulsory semester fee.
3. Semester due for the Studierendenwerk (€ 54.09)
All Berlin students are required to pay a semester fee for the Studierendenwerk, a student welfare organisation, which is responsible for student dining facilities (student canteens and cafeterias) at the universities in Berlin as well as for the halls of residence (Wohnheime).
4. Semester ticket (€ 201.80)
The semester ticket is a seasonal student ticket for public transport in Berlin. Every Humboldt student is required to purchase the ticket each semester, which gives freedom of travel for the whole semester, i.e. for six months, on the underground (U-Bahn),on the S-Bahn, on buses, trams and ferry boats throughout Berlin and in Potsdam (fare zones ABC). A bicycle may also be taken along for free. In comparison, a standard monthly ticket costs € 84 and is valid only on public transport within Berlin (fare zones AB). Please contact the semester ticket office with any further questions.
The standard fees and dues (as of October 2020) amount to € 315.64 in total (€ 265.64 for programme exchange students) and have to be transferred to the Humboldt account provided.

As already mentioned, you need to be formally accepted as a student of our faculty. You can only apply after your home institution has submitted your nomination.
You will then apply via our application portal (Moveon) and wait for instructions. After your application has been accepted you will need to register as a student at Humboldt and retrieve your login details as well as your study card (Semesterticket). It is also a travel pass for public transportation. This step is called the enrolment procedure. You will get to register for exams 6 weeks after you have started your lectures. Please mind that different deadlines apply for seminars and language courses.
Eventually you will also have to register your apartment with the local authorities in Berlin.
